China is a leader in education with Linux
In 2005 the chinese government supported government to open source communities, thousands of young people have been forming and increasing sales of Linux software grew by 20 % in 2007.
The foundation of Leadership of Open Source University Promotion Alliance (LUPA) has helped more than 300 universities and colleges have core technologies in open source. 1,500 professionals have passed the certification of Linux operator or administrator.
LUPA offers 9 degrees including certificates for software engineers and only in the last month has published 11 textbooks Linux in response to government demands to learn advanced technologies.
Data from management consulting firms reflect the rise of open source in China, with an increase of 17.1 % software and Linux in particular that exceeds 20 %. Zhang Jianhua, president of LUPA, estimated that the organization will train 100,000 students per year in Linux.
In addition to courses open source, the government holds regular activities such as conferences, lectures, competitions, festivals, marches and campus to attract students to learn more about the culture, history, and technologies from the manufacture of open-source .
It is expected that the increase of free software in the chinese education system, help increase the global market for open source, with the power of the world’s most populous country.
